Dhara 377 Shongskar Andolon
The movement to reform Section 377. A law written in 1860 still lets blackmailers threaten queer and trans people in Bangladesh today. Help us change it, safely and on your own terms.

A colonial-era law that still hangs over people's lives.
Section 377 of Bangladesh's Penal Code was written in 1860 under British colonial rule. It criminalises "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" and allows sentences of up to life imprisonment.
Whether or not it's enforced, its threat does damage every day. Blackmailers lean on it: "Pay me, or I'll tell your family, or the police." Fear of the law keeps people from reporting extortion, violence and abuse, and from seeking health care.
Reform that protects everyone.
Reform doesn't mean removing protections. It means a law that protects people instead of putting them in danger.
Decriminalise consenting adults
Private, consensual relationships between adults should never be a crime or a reason for blackmail.
Let victims report safely
People who report blackmail, extortion or violence must be able to do so without being investigated themselves.
Keep strong protection from abuse
A reformed law must still protect children, and protect boys and men from sexual violence. Nobody should lose protection.
There's a role for everyone.
You don't have to be public to be part of this. Most of the work happens quietly.
